The Story of Somanath Temple

With the dream of creating an ideal Vedic community, Dr. Michael Mamas founded Mount Soma in 2002. Veda, the unifying central core of existence, offers fundamental technologies to nourish all humanity. Within Veda, the rationality of science and the grandeur of the Divine merge.

The heart of Mount Soma is Somanath Temple. Through strict adherence to Vedic technology, Somanath Temple radiates the Divine Light of the Transcendental source of all life and existence.

Across the street from the Temple is the Mount Soma Learning Center. The Learning Center has a meditation hall and will be the location for seminars and events designed to facilitate the natural development of human consciousness. The heavily wooded mountainous landscape offers an exquisitely natural setting accented with hiking trails and scenic overlooks. Great care was taken in finding this lovely 370-acre site, perfectly suited to Vastu guidelines.

Dr. Mamas’ resolve to create Mount Soma was reaffirmed when, during a pilgrimage through India accompanied by Pundit Sanjay Rath, he visited the Balaji Temple in Tirupati, India. Similar to the Balaji Temple, Mount Soma offers a place people can visit (or reside in year around) to rapidly evolve towards enlightenment. Residence courses and retreats are dedicated to the cultivation of direct knowledge, communion with one’s Divine Essence, and, in the tradition of Adi Shankara, learning the spiritual path of discernment.

Spiritual leaders of India recognize Dr. Mamas for having reached a level of consciousness few in the world have attained. Many, including a number of highly-respected Indian Jyotishis, a Taoist Master, palm leaf readers, and even Ayurvedic doctors have stated that Dr. Mamas is an incarnation of an aspect of Lord Vishnu, or Lord Rama. Being of an unassuming nature, Dr. Mamas doesn’t think of himself in those terms. However, it is interesting to note that Lord Rama holds within his heart Lord Shiva. Similarly, Dr. Mamas is devoted to Lord Shiva—in his heart of hearts dwells Lord Shiva. It is for this reason a Shiva Temple is being built. Furthermore, a Shiva temple will radiate the power of Divinity that is so direly needed in today’s world.

Dr. Mamas was given the title of Adhyatm Vidhya Visharad (Spiritual Master) by Bhagavan Yagnyavalkya Ved Tatavagyan Yogashram, the Sanskrit College at the University of Gujarat in 2007. One of Dr. Mamas’ great gifts is his ability to rationally explain Vedic knowledge and apply it to daily life. Proclaimed by prominent figures in India to be the only truly enlightened Master from the West, he has dedicated his life to the evolution of humanity and the healing of our beloved earth.
